After a weeks-long investigation, Status Coup can confirm a second ICE prisoner at Delaney Hall in New Jersey has died in just a month—and the Department of Homeland Security and ICE attempted to cover it up.

Jose Chajon-Raxon, a Guatemalan immigrant, was detained at Delaney Hall toward the end of July. Soon after—while still in intake—he suffered seizures. Sources familiar with what happened told Status Coup that after Chajon-Raxon’s medical episode, ICE quickly released him, essentially taking advantage of a loophole, to wash their hands of responsibility for whatever happened to him.

Chajon-Raxon died soon after ICE dumped him.

“This person was put in the ambulance and ICE says ‘OK we’re going to release this person so the jurisdiction changes and says you’re not in ICE custody —so we don’t need to report this death but rather this death will fall on the hospital or the death happened in the ambulance,’” Sally Pillay, an anti-Delaney Hall organizer and immigrant rights activist, told Status Coup on August 4th when she and others were still trying to confirm Jose’s identity and the details of how he died.

DHS claims Chajon-Raxon was released from its custody days after he was detained — on July 22nd — not immediately upon the intake process at Delaney Hall. They also claim he died weeks after his release.

Status Coup’s reporting, as well as ABC News Eyewitness News, contradicts DHS’ claim, finding instead that the controversial ICE prison released Chajon-Raxon almost immediately after detaining him on the same day, and he died soon after his release—not weeks later.

DHS has been caught in an endless sea of lies regarding ICE murdering American citizens, murdering undocumented immigrants, shooting immigrants, and the circumstances of deaths within ICE prisons across America.

In the case of Chajon-Raxon, New Jersey Congressman Rob Menendez explained that ICE is taking advantage of a “loophole” in which they don’t have to report a detainee death—if they release them right before the death.

“Their custody is a particular way of thinking that ICE has in terms of people that are in their custody but they can release them on a discretionary basis; once they do so, they’re no longer responsible for even reporting the death,” Menendez told ABC Eyewitness News. “There’s the information that ICE provides and then what I’ve often found to be a separate reality that we hear from the detained individuals, their families and advocates, and they often don’t line up. I personally choose to believe the detained individuals, their families, rather than ICE.”

THE BOTTOM LINE: ICE covered up the death of Jose Chajon-Raxon, and the public only found out about it due to Rep. Menendez conducting an oversight visit to Delaney Hall; soon after the death of a separate prisoner, Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo.

Before his visit, ICE had covered up Chajon-Raxon’s death and only confirmed it when probed by Menendez. As of the time we’re publishing this story, we don’t know if Chajon-Raxon died en route to the hospital in the ambulance or at the hospital.

Chajon-Raxon’s death occurred shortly before Cornejo, an El Salvadoran man, died on August 1st. Cornejo was deprived of medication while imprisoned in Delaney Hall for his diabetes, seizures, and high blood pressure; he was also denied visitation with his 12-year-old daughter shortly before he died.

Status Coup covered a press conference after he died in which his heartbroken daughter broke down. “I’m going to grow up without a father,” she said. “They refused to give him his medication, and they brushed it off as complaining. They know they're guilty, but they want to lie about it. They’re heartless monsters.”

In total, there have been three deaths of detainees at Delaney Hall over the last nine months — that we know of. In December 2025, Jean Wilson Brutus, a Haitian immigrant, died at Delaney Hall less than 24 hours after being detained.

To this day, there has still been no transparency from DHS as to how Brutus died.

Congratulations are in order for journalist and Status Coup reporter Tina-Desiree Berg on a major award. Berg’s reporting for SC was awarded the 2026 Golden State Journalism Courage Award by the Sacramento Press Club. The awards ceremony was held in May 2026 in Los Angeles. It is a befitting award — as you all know, it take COURAGE and GUTS to be the center of everything COVERING THE NEWS the mainstream media IGNORES.

The award was given for Berg’s intense ON-THE-GROUND reporting “the protests against federal action in the Los Angeles area in June 2025,” the citation reads. This year’s award was also given to 8 other courageous journalists who were also accosted while doing their jobs. The reporting was done outside of the Metropolitan Detention Center in L.A., the site of many heightened demonstrations during ICE raids in April 2025.

It citation continues:

Nearly ninety journalists were reported to have been assaulted by law enforcement during those weeks, across roughly one hundred separate incidents, irrespective of press identification, network affiliation, or whether they were broadcasting live at the time. The award is conferred on the nine journalists named in the lawsuit brought by the Los Angeles Press Club and Status Coup against the Los Angeles Police Department, who together represent the range of conduct directed at the press during that period. It is offered on behalf of everyone who was out there.

This statement from the press club’s letter to Berg is indicative of WHY STATUS COUP COVERS WHAT CORPORATE MEDIA COVERS UP and BOTCHES in REAL TIME.

You were removed, repeatedly, from places you had every right to stand-including one instance more than a hundred feet from any confrontation, ostensibly for your own protection. Being pushed out of frame is a quieter kind of obstruction than being shot at, and harder to photograph. You kept coming back, and you kept filming.

Berg told the U.S. Press Freedom Tracker in April 2026 that she had her back toward a growing line of cops who were there to deter protesters and then targeted reporters who were clearly identified as members of the press. She said as she was talking to “a media relations lieutenant,” she was THROWN TO THE WOLVES and shoved her into the police line.

“He told her, ‘That’s it, I’m done,’ before shoving her through the police line.” She continued ““I’ve never had a media relations person behave like that…It’s just so offensive.”Courageous and spirited reporters like Berg are what makes Status Coup who we are — it takes courage and YOUR SUPPORT to report in streets and neighborhoods across the U.S. — in the trenches — telling the stories of folks who live in communities like this, when corporate and legacy media won’t dare shed light on them.

Status Coup has uncovered a potential media corruption scandal that begs the question as to whether CBS News—owned by Paramount Skydance and Trump-supporting David Ellison—killed a 60 Minutes segment exposing the role Wall Street banks played in enabling Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes…

To protect one of those banks financially backing its controversial mega merger with Warner Bros.

Lost in the never-ending Trump regime madness this week, Senator Ron Wyden released a damning 67-page report alleging that JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Deutsche Bank’s enabled Jeffrey Epstein’s child sex trafficking ring by helping him launder hundreds of millions of dollars through their respective banks.

Within the report, Wyden revealed a bombshell: he was interviewed by CBS’ 60 Minutes’ reporter Sharyn Alfonsi in March—before her controversial firing by CBS News editor in chief Bari Weiss—as part of an investigative segment the show was doing on Wall Street banks’ role in enabling Epstein’s crimes.

But, Alfonsi was then fired and then the segment and story…

Dissapeared.

From Wyden’s report:

“However, shortly after the taping of the interview with Senator Wyden, CBS News Leadership led by Bari Weiss made the decision to fire Sharyn Alfonsi,” Wyden stated in his report. As a result, the interview with Senator Wyden will not be aired and it is unclear whether Bari Weiss and CBS News Leadership will allow the broader segment to ever be aired.”

After reading much of Wyden’s report, something didn’t smell right related to why CBS News would kill this segment—particularly related to JPMorgan Chase, who according to the New York Times, processed over $1 billion in Epstein’s transactions—much of which its own bank executives flagged as suspicious.

And then it hit me.

Guess which mega bank issued CBS News’ owner, Paramount Skydance, a $10 billion loan to power its attempted mega merger with Warner Bros. Discovery?

JPMorgan Chase.

Just take it from JPMorgan Chase CEO Jamie Dimon, who recently acknowledged to CNBC that his bank was both loaning Paramount Skydance the $10 billion—and advising the company on the deal—before voicing his opposition to states like California’s campaign to block the mega merger.

Here’s the timeline:

• February 2026: Paramount Skydance and Warner Bros. Discovery announce $110 billion mega merger

• March 26, 2026: CBS News 60 Minutes tapes interview with Senator Ron Wyden on his 4-year investigation into Wall Street banks—like JPMorgan Chase—role in enabling Jeffrey Epstein’s crimes.

• May 2026: JPMorgan Chase-led bank group increased Paramount Skydance loan to $10.2 billion

• March-May: As JPMorgan Chase leads $10 billion loan for Paramount Skydance’s attempted mega merger with Warner Bros. Discovery, CBS 60 Minutes—owned by Paramount Skydance—does not air its planned story/segment with Senator Wyden on banks like JPMorgan Chase enabling Epstein’s crimes.

Status Coup has learned that a Delaney Hall ICE prisoner has died, the second prisoner that we know of who has died while being imprisoned inside the for-profit New Jersey ICE prison.

Edwin Jovanny Lopez Cornejo, who we’re told had been in America for 20 years and came here as a child, died on Saturday, August 1. He had a 12-year-old daughter.

Status Coup is working to confirm all the details, but here’s what we know so far:

In a video on social media, his mother, María Cornejo, said he suffered from diabetes, high blood pressure, and seizures. Status Coup is told he was deprived of his medication while inside Delaney Hall— an illegal and inhumane crime that Status Coup has extensively reported ON-THE-GROUND at Delaney Hall as occurring to other prisoners.

“I do not want this to go unpunished,” his mother said. She said he called her on Friday, saying he wasn’t feeling well.

“He said his right hand and face were numb. He told me he was going to be examined, but I don’t know if he actually received care. I also don’t know if he was being given his medication.”

An ambulance took him out of Delaney Hall on August 1, and he was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

He was detained on June 18 on his way to work. Shortly before his death, he was denied visitation to see his 12-year-old daughter. His mother revealed she still has not received any communication from the for-profit owner of Delaney Hall, GEO Group, or ICE.

This is now the second death of a Delaney Hall prisoner that we know of. In December 2025, Jean Wilson Brutus, a Haitian immigrant, died at Delaney Hall less than 24 hours after being detained. To this day, there has still been no transparency from DHS as to how he died.

We will update this story as we learn more information about this prisoner's death.

Status Coup reporter JT Cestkowski has been covering the hotly contested Wisconsin gubernatorial race VERY closely this year — and it seems like the mainstream media is just starting to catch up.

Early on, JT asked the question that might end up being the determining factor behind Democratic Socialist Francesca Hong winning the state’s Democratic primary on Aug. 11. While hosting a Democratic Gubernatorial candidate forum on June 2, JT asked the candidates, “Do you support a one-year or longer moratorium on data center construction in Wisconsin?”

To the shock of many in the room, Hong was the ONLY one to say “yes.” It wasn’t too much of a shock to us.

Now, outlets like Semafor are just getting to the nitty-gritty of what we already knew. In an article published on July 31, Semafor decried “Progressives’ Midwest insurgency is powered by the growing data center backlash” — which is no surprise to us, as we’ve also been reporting on people across the U.S. opposing the large A.I.-driven data centers being built in their backyards.

While many of the other candidates who responded “no” to JT’s questions gave winded responses, Hong was direct and clear. And with this knowledge, Semafor seems surprised that Hong continues to stand fully by her “Control-Alt-Delete” platform, first introduced in January 2026, as an effort to “rein in A.I.” in her home state.

Semafor reports that Hong, 37, is headed toward the closely watched primary “as the clear favorite over a panicked establishment,” with “Grassroots opposition to data centers has exploded” since 2025. Candidates like Hong and Michigan Senatorial candidate Abdul El-Sayed are striking fear in establishment Democratic candidates in their races with their opposition to data centers and “Medicare for All,” among other initiatives resonating with voters.

Further, DURING THE FORUM, the topic of labor organizations setting up the forum tasked JT with asking about was “AI and Outsourcing,” but he steered the conversation toward data centers because at the time, he was reporting on the ground for Status Coup on Hyperscale data center projects in his home state and hearing firsthand how pissed off many Wisconsinites were about them.

What makes this moment for Hong when answering JT’s question so emphatically is what else was happening across the country — and the ability to be multiple places, covering on-the-ground news that legacy media doesn’t want you to see.
